Dominic Bielli

Dominic Bielli was born and raised in Athens, GA. He attended Athens Montessori, Hilsman Middle School and will soon graduate from Cedar Shoals High School. While at Cedar Shoals, Dominic was part of the soccer team and the school’s journalism program, Cedar BluePrints Magazine. Dominic is a musician, participating in Nuçi’s Space’s Camp Amped for seven years and has played guitar in several bands. After graduation, Dominic plans to attend Kennesaw State University to study video editing. He lives on the Eastside of Athens with his mom Jennifer, dad Nick, sister Genevieve and their dog Auggie.

What was your favorite class in high school?

My favorite class in high school was definitely journalism. That was just because it was a really welcoming program from the start. Our advisor at Cedar is a great guy, Mr. Ginsberg, and once I met him my sophomore year I joined the program. I was able to just progress throughout my three years in that class, and it really led me to choose my major in college because of that journalism class.

What do you miss most while we’re sheltering in place?

I definitely miss hanging out with friends, that’s for sure. It’s hard to complete the year without being able to see people. I also miss being at places like Nuçi’s Space, which is a really big part of my life, and not being able to go there and work on music and stuff is just a bummer. I also miss going to school a lot.

What are you doing with all of this extra time at home?

Mainly, I have been trying to put my focus towards music because I have had a lot of time to just sit down and put my mind to it. I’ve just been recording small instrumental songs and i’ve been releasing them on Soundcloud.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere in the world, at the moment it would be Mexico. The reason for that is because my family and I were planning on going there for my graduation trip. It’s also somewhere I have wanted to visit for a long time outside of America, since i’ve never been out of the country. Mexico was always the first thing that popped to my mind when I thought about going somewhere outside my country.

If you could see any band, anywhere, dead or alive, who would it be and where?

I have many favorite bands, but I would probably have to say Led Zeppelin because they have already died out. They don’t play live shows anymore so It would be awesome just to get to see them live and to say that I was able to see Led Zeppelin. Same thing with Nirvana. It would be insane to see either Led Zeppelin or Nirvana in Athens at the 40 Watt.

If you could have lunch with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and where?

If I was going to sit down and have lunch with anyone, it would probably have to be James Hetfield from Metallica. He was one of my first musical inspirations that drove me to listen to the genre of music I listen to now, which I enjoy so much. It would just be cool to sit down and be able to say thank you and talk about all the stuff that he and his band did that got me going in my own musical world. We would go to Waffle House.

If you could give advice to someone just entering high school, what would you tell them?

I would tell them to go in there with an open mind and don’t be afraid of anything. I guess because when I first went to high school I overestimated what it was going to be like, but especially where I went to high school it was just a great place that changes you as a person for the better. I would definitely just say go in with an open mind and try to meet as many people as you can and get good grades. Don’t give up.

Do you have a favorite movie or a favorite series?

My favorite movie is this movie called Holes.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Honestly, the best advice I have ever received was the advice I would have given to incoming freshmen. Don’t give up. That has always stuck with me because i’ve come close, and it’s simple advice, but it just pushes me to stay motivated in every aspect of my life.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I see myself in ten years as an independent musician, and I would like to hopefully, if all of my college stuff goes well, be a video editor. Hopefully, I will have a good job somewhere in that field.

What three words or phrases do you think of when you think of the word “home”?

Family, safety and security.
